So, here is the next event I have to post in retrospect, as the opening venue was Wednesday March 7th in the MAK-Center LA, the Schindler house. The exhibition featured work by this terms artitst and architects in residence for the MAK-Schindler Scholarship. For this show we put together three different approaches of design strategies we explored troughout our stay in Los Angeles.
One group of models demonstrated our explorations in high genus entities. The topological description of this models allows for the introduction of various approaches in spatial articulation as well as in the conditions created by the boundary surfaces.
You can see the models in more detail
here. In the lower left cormer of the image is also a small STL Model of a branching structure, but thats a different story. The second section of the exhibit was dedicated to explorations of
topology models of lower genus. Famous examples of this approaches are
triply periodic minimal surfaces such as Schoens Surfaces, Manta Surfaces of various geni, Scherk and Schwarz surfaces. In our case it is more related to non orientable surfaces such as
Klein Bottle. We explored this spatial configuration in order to apply possible programmatics to it, like prototypes of circulation systems in buildings, open versus closed surfaces, creating specific openings etc.
The third section was a compostion of aluminum panels formed in a process known as
superforming, This panels are one vissible result of our research on advanced fabrication methods within the Southern California Area. This panels were there to demonstrate possible applications for advanced fabrication methods in architecure. It would be great to use this technology to create an Interiour design, or a building fassade, or even an entire building, including its structural system. The entire exhibition was a huge success, and the work of all participants was appreciated by the audience.
We have to thank the generous support by the sponsors of our exhibition pieces, without their help it won´t have been possible to setup this pieces: The Advanced Technology Center of Saddleback College, Superform USA, Xfrog, and for providing their wine for the opening venue: Pitnauer Winery, Austria
