SPAN-Lecture at SCI-Arc
Neil Leach, british architect and architecture theorist, was so kind to invite SPAN to lecture about our work in his studio at SCI-Arc. Well, of course there was a special challenge, as the lecture was supposed to explain the discoursive relations of our work, and our design approaches with the works of philosophers such as Deleuze and de Landa.
We have been tinkering around with this ideas in internal discussions, but we have never before explained this breeding environment of our work in public. I wont repeat the entire lecture here, as it would take too long. (Not to mention that it would have the effect of Lunesta to some of my dear readers...) I just will mention some of the Keywords, for documentation purposes, you know. We talked about the concept of difference, and how difference is propelling evolution. The concept of difference could be applyed to architectural entities, creating various evolutions that can result in enhanced performative conditions. We talked about selforganization of materials, thus about the behaviour of populations. (like the populations of cells within plaster) How behaviour is informed by intensive forces. Extensive vs. Intensive systems, and how this creates (again) difference in architectural conditions. Every one of this topics was illustrated wether by very prototypical designs as shown here, or by more elaborate projects such as the planless house.

Btw, thanks for adding me to your neighborhood! ^^;
Industrial design is quite facinating. I'm rather new to it so, everything about it looks amazing to me. Even this article! :D
